2019 PRIDE WEEKEND

What a wonderful experience we had the weekend of June 8th & 9th at Motor

City Pride !!   Christ the King Parish, Gesu Parish, and Fortunate Families Detroit marched in the parade on Sunday.  You can see some of our pictures below.

As we marched with our banners, we were greeted with  enthusiastic applause

and cheering to see the Catholic presence we represented for this event!

We also had a booth at Hart Plaza on both Sat. and Sun. staffed by members of Christ the King, Gesu, Fortunate Families, and St. Mary's Student Parish in Ann Arbor.  We shared information about our welcoming parishes and spoke with many people about Fortunate Families and the work that we do. As

always our presence at Pride was noted with amazement and gratitude.  Many people stopped by just to say, "Thanks for being here!   It means so much to see Catholics at this event!"

Wish all of you could have shared this wonderful outreach to the people of this city!  We are proud to have been a part of it!!

Our next meeting on Sunday, November 10th is an important one for framing our position as LGBT people and families in this archdiocese as well as questioning whether we are willing to address that position as it is or to look and work for a path to a more positive focus.

We will be discussing Archbishop Vigneron's recent Pastoral Letter on Ministry to those Who Experience Same Sex Attraction.
Fr. Vic ,who informed us of this letter at our Sept. Day of Reflection, will be with us at the meeting.  He has written a  response to the Introduction to the Archbishop's letter which was written by Bishop Gerard Battersby.  We will also address Fr. Vic's letter which contains some important  practical suggestions for a more positive approach for the Church's ministry with LGBT people, particularly in our archdiocese.  See Attached. esp. the last 7 paragraphs.

I will bring a few copies of each letter, but please do read the Pastoral Letter linked above and the attached ( Fr. Vic's) before the meeting so we can have a fruitful discussion and hopefully come to some reasonable and practical action steps.

At our Day of Reflection we agreed that it was important for us to pray, consider, and discern what path our ministry should take in the next year.  Please join us as we begin that effort!!  We need each of us to help discern where the Spirit is leading us.  We are the Body of Christ and each of us is needed.

Peace and Blessings,
